Inform your family that you are going to purchase emergency food and let them know where you store it. When you simply by a large quantity of food without storing it or telling your family why you bought it then it could go to waste. They will simply eat it without thinking twice about its purpose. Communicate with your family so no one eats your stored food unless its during an emergency.

In addition to this buy bags of beans and grains. Buy enough for at least 2 weeks. Plan to feed you, your family and even a couple of other people. It is impossible to predict who will come your way during a disaster, so be prepare for the unexpected. Water is essential as well. Keep enough water to supply your family for at least a month.

When you plan emergency food storage you do not have to buy all of your items at once. A lot of people cannot afford to buy emergency food in one transaction, that is fine. Once a week buy extra food and put it in storage. After one or two months you should have enough food stored for an emergency.

Buy supplies such as duct tape, flashlight, rope and other items that may prove to come in handy during a disaster. Emergency food is the most important thing you should focus on to prepare for a disaster. You can live without supplies, but your body cannot live without food. If a disaster strikes then you will be prepared and grateful that you planned ahead. Do not worry if a disaster does not occur, that’s a good thing.
